Little Crow 02:51
Little Crow, where have you flown? Such a long way from home. Little Crow, where have you gone? I've been up many nights contemplating all the wrongs that you could right, Little Crow. And you know that I can't do this on my own. The dark of the murder sweeps low, toward the north side of the lake. Shadows blanket over eastern soil, pull the warmth from every face. Shivers down the spine as a small suburban home turns on the fire. And the smell of bourbon in the air as the sun sets right on time. Little Crow, where have you flown? Such a long way from home. Little Crow, where have you gone? I've been up many nights contemplating all the wrongs that you could right, Little Crow. And you know that I can't do this on my own. The wind picks up and the howl of the banshee comin' down. The weight of the world comes with it and her feet sink in the ground. Pressure's building as stubborn arms reach for the sky. And the allies still awake don't see the signs but they hear the body fall. Little Crow, where have you flown? Such a long way from home. Little Crow, where have you gone? I've been up many nights contemplating all the wrongs that you could right, Little Crow. And you know that I can't do this on my own. And you know that I can't do this on my own.

I know you think I'm crazy, that now my head is breaking up. I know you think I'm lost and the compass in my pocket ain't enough. I know you see me foolish, burn me once and then again. I know you think my pride has little value when my heart is in. But you don't know the half of it. I've got an open door. You could walk right in. You'd never step that close to me cause I tell it like it is. Keep looking down. Keep looking down. I lie alone on the floor at night with a pint of whiskey in the candle light. I serenade an empty room while the cold wind blows and the full moon blooms. When the strings are out and the breath is thin, that Shadowman a-slithers in. And he whispers things inside my ear until the quiet's gone and the monster's here. But you don't know the half of it. I've got an open door. You could walk right in. You'd never step that close to me cause I tell it like it is. Keep looking down. Keep looking down. I know you think I'm crazy, that now my head is breaking up. I know you think I'm lost and the compass in my pocket ain't enough. I know you see me foolish, burn me once and then again. I know you think my pride has little value when my heart is in.

Fool's Ride 02:38
Do you feel that monster coming like a hurricane a-drumming. I'm a fool at every wake. The walls of my foundation let the flooding breech the parlor. How you steal my breath away like sweet grass burning through and iron cage. Black-eyed and bullet-shot. Take a rest on me. Fools ride in the dark of the night. Take a rest on me. Take a rest on me. Time and time again I leave an honor at the altar but the funeral takes precedent and the rain comes pouring down. The eulogy is steady as they say the lines in turn. "They never wanted all this glory. They were only passing though." Here lies the injured pride of a broken fool. Black-eyed and bullet-shot. Take a rest on me. Fools ride in the dark of the night. Take a rest on me. Take a rest on me. It's deeper I've been sinking for the sake of some old rhythm. As the audience wades sweetly, I find my peace in the belly of an old familiar ghost. And I drag them all with me through the rain of my defeat and make them listen to that echo-- listen to that echo until their spirits break like mine. It was foolish to believe that it'd go differently this time. Black-eyed and bullet-shot. Take a rest on me. Fools ride in the dark of the night. Take a rest on me. Take a rest on me. Take a rest on me.

Burn Me Once 02:59
I've never been known for my beauty or the sparkle in my eye. I've been seen to have a rougher edge around me-- a darker kind of light. But when I was a sweet little darlin' with purple ribbons in my hair, they told me "it don't matter what you look like baby, nor the dresses that you wear." That disappointment is in me. That disappointment is in me. That disappointment's mine-- I believe 'em every time. You said you'd be better in the morning, that you'd sleep off the stank of the drank. You said just one more would make you stronger, just one more would get you to your feet. Then all the lights in our arena grew much darker and you curled around me with the hunger of a snake. And the choice to turn away got even farther than the ribbons I had long laid to waste. That disappointment is in me. That disappointment is in me. That disappointment's mine-- I believe 'em every time. I watch you shake it shake it on that stage, hear you calling out to God. You told me I was something special, a total package coming off the lot. But then you dropped off the face of the planet and not a word heard from the glory of the fall. And the beauty and the sparkle that had come fell away with the sustenance of every single song you ever sang. That disappointment is in me. That disappointment is in me. That disappointment's mine-- I believe 'em every time. That disappointment is in me. That disappointment is in me. That disappointment's ---

Left handed hook and the spinning of the world and the cold of the earth to the cheek. And the blood pools beneath the swell of the skin, coating the tongue and the teeth. It's a long, hard road. It's a long, hard road. Destination wide, to a warm sublime, a-lift from the iron and the dank. Though traveled so long, persevered through the raw of exposure, bludgeon, and blame. It's a long, hard road. It's a long, hard road. There's no looking back to shadows once cast. Step one foot in front of the last. Let the boots shake the stones, send a hummin' though the bones of everyone willing to stand. There's no looking back to shadows once cast. Step one foot in front of the last. Let the boots shake the stones, send a hummin' though the bones of everyone willing to stand. It's a long, hard road. It's a long, hard road. It's a long, hard road. It's a long, hard road.

It's me who floods the river to tear down everyone I know. It's me who sends the snow level high and fills the valley own below. It's me who lays the teardrops fall across the stones. But it ain't anyone I blame for the weight of the rain in the grove. It's me who starts the fire in the heart of every wood. It's me who keeps the coals burning hot, long past the time they should. And it's me who presses flowers and lays them at my feet. But it ain't anyone I blame for the wind that goes raging through the trees. It's me who holds the mountain like a lion in a cage. It's me who sets her loose to feed on everything in her way. It's me who swallows whole every place I ever knew. But it ain't anyone I blame for the cold and the lonely of the truth. It's me who moves the sidewalk with a rumble underground. It's me who builds the tension up to tear it right back down. It's me who shivers spines as the prison starts to break. It ain't anyone I blame for the rage and the shakin' of my quake.
